Turbine is the transcription of a short section of the sound of one of the most used engines on airliners. The sound was recorded immediately after the first phase of take-off, when the plane had already reached a first level of altitude. The engine in question is a Rolls Royce Trent 800.
This Audiography was created using the MWS - Musical Writing System®, a patented system algorithm capable of encoding a sound into textual code.
The artwork is part of a collection about the sounds of creation, and represents technology, the fruit of man's work.
The wood is the one used on construction sites, demonstrating that art is based on craftsmanship. Paper, on the other hand, represents art: it is delicate and fragile and relies on craftsmanship.
The textual code is stylized, black printed on white paper, to induce the viewer to concentrate on the meaning of the artwork and not on the aesthetic aspect. This is why the work appears rough and you can still see the pencil marks imprinted on the wood.
This is a unique work.
